What is the newest Samsung phone? – October 2022

It has often been difficult to keep track of the newest Samsung phone given that the company releases so many throughout the year. Samsung has dozens of models across different series which cater to all price ranges. This page will be updated on a monthly basis to ensure that you can always know what is the newest Samsung phone in each series.

The latest Galaxy Phone in every series

Galaxy Z Fold

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in August 2022. It’s a solid contender to become of the best Samsung phones of the year. Pre-orders for the device began on August 10 with the release date set for August 26.

Several notable improvements have been made to the device. The 6.2-inch HD+ cover display has a wider aspect ratio. The 7.6-inch QXGA+ internal foldable display has slimmer bezels all around for an immersive experience. The Under Display Camera also does a better job of hiding itself this time around. Both display panels have a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. The internal display is compatible with the S Pen.

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Z Fold 4 with Qualcomm’s 4nm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. It can be configured with up to 12GB of RAM and 1TB of onboard storage. The 4,400mAh battery is the same as its predecessor. The device is IPX8 water resistant and have Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the cover display and back panel for added durability. Check out our dedicated Galaxy Z Fold 4 specs page for all details.

The cameras on the device include a 50-megapixel wide-angle sensor paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical and 30x Space Zoom. The cover display has a 10-megapixel selfie camera whereas the UDC has a 4-megapixel sensor. Color options include Phantom Black, Graygreen, and Beige. The Burgundy color is a Samsung.com exclusive.

Galaxy Z Flip

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 has arrived to fill the shoes of the highly successful Galaxy Z Flip 3. Samsung unveiled the device on August 10, 2022 with the release set for August 26. It was great to see that the company didn’t increase the $999 starting price.

Design changes are minimal with flatter edges and a shiny finish on the frame. It does get Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the glass panels for more durability. The 1.9-inch cover display is now more capable, enabling users to send quick messages, take portraits, control smart home devices, and much more.

The 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display has a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. It’s also brighter than its predecessor. Samsung has retained the IPX8 water resistance rating of the device’s predecessor as well.

Samsung has opted to use the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset for this device. It comes with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of onboard storage. The 3,700mAh battery is a welcome 12% increase over the previous model. It supports 25W super fast charging, too. The camera setup consists of a 12-megapixel wide-angle sensor in addition to a 12-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. A 10-megapixel sensor is present for selfies.

Prices for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 start at $999. Available color options include Bora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold, and Blue. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 Bespoke Edition is available in 28 countries. It offers 75 possible color combinations.

Galaxy Note

August is Galaxy Note month and right on cue, Samsung unveiled two new handsets in 2020 as well. The Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra went on sale on August 21, 2020. They are the last Galaxy Note flagships as the series has now been absorbed into the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

There are some major differences between the two models. The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra feature a 6.7-inch flat FHD+ display and a 6.9-inch Quad HD+ curved display with dynamic 120Hz refresh rate. The former doesn’t have a microSD card slot while the latter does. Both don’t support 45W super fast charging, maxing out at 25W instead.

While the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra retains the signature metal and glass build that Samsung flagships have become familiar far, the Galaxy Note 20 only gets a plastic back. That’s a surprising decision Samsung has made this year, in addition to not offering 120Hz refresh rate on the smaller handset.

They also use the same Exynos 990/Snapdragon 865+ chipsets with the Note 20 only getting 8GB RAM while the Ultra gets a 12GB RAM configuration as well with up to 512GB of storage. Check out our hands-on to learn more about these phones and visit our devices page for the full Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra specs.

Prices start at $999 and $1,299 for the 5G Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra respectively.

Galaxy S

Samsung has unveiled its 2022 flagship lineup. The newest Samsung phones in the Galaxy S series are now the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and the Galaxy S22 Ultra. These devices are powered by the Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipsets with availability varying by region. All variants are available with different RAM and storage configurations.

The company has kept the design for the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ fairly similar to their predecessors. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has received a complete design refresh. It now looks a lot similar to the Galaxy Note flagships of previous years. That’s because Samsung has now discontinued the Galaxy Note lineup.

The Galaxy S22 is the base model and also the smallest of the bunch. It features a 6.1-inch FHD+ resolution display with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. The back is made out of plastic, not glass, but that was to be expected. The camera setup consists of a 12-megapixel ultra-wide f/2.2 sensor, a 50-megapixel wide-angle f/1.8 sensor with OIS and a 10-megapixel telephoto f/2.4 sensor with 3x optical zoom. There’s also a 10-megapixel f/2.2 front camera. A 3,700mAh battery is onboard with support for 25W wired fast charging.

Samsung has retained the glass back on the Galaxy S22+ which is commendable. It’s a bit larger with a 6.6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display that has an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. The camera setup is exactly the same as the Galaxy S22. Even the RAM and storage configurations are the same. It does have a larger 4,500mAh battery with support for 45W wired charging.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is a beast of a flagship. It has also been redesigned to look more like a Galaxy Note flagship. This is the first Galaxy S series device to have an internal silo for the S Pen. It boasts a 6.8-inch QHD+ resolution Super AMOLED 120Hz adaptive refresh rate display. It’s available with 8/12GB RAM with 128/256/512GB as well as 1TB of internal storage.

The camera setup has a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide sensor with a 108-megapixel f/1.8 wide-angle sensor. There’s also a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom and another 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom. A 40-megapixel f/2.2 camera is present on the front. Like the Ultra handsets before it, the Galaxy S22 Ultra offers 100x Space Zoom.

Samsung has not raised the prices for its latest flagship series. The Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and the Galaxy S22 Ultra start at $799, $999 and $1,199 respectively.
