Galaxy S20 One UI 5.0 beta is almost live, but BTS Edition devices can’t join

Last updated: September 28th, 2022 at 16:06 UTC+02:00

The Galaxy S20 was among the first smartphones to enter the One UI 5.0 beta stages of development, except it was all done behind closed doors. Fortunately for Galaxy S20 customers in South Korea, Samsung is now almost ready to test the One UI 5.0 beta firmware on the Galaxy S20 lineup nationwide with the help of Samsung Members willing to run pre-release firmware on their phones.

Registrations for the One UI 5.0 beta program are now open for Galaxy S20 customers in Korea. They can apply to join the beta program through the Samsung Members app, which will give them access to the One UI 5.0 beta firmware as soon as it’s available. Samsung is now accepting invites from prospective beta participants, but the firmware is not yet live. However, this could change at any moment.

Galaxy S20 BTS Edition customers don’t have access to the One UI 5.0 beta

Whenever Samsung releases the first One UI 5.0 beta build for the Galaxy S20 in South Korea, BTS Edition customers won’t be able to join. Samsung notified of this in its Members post for Galaxy S20 customers in Korea, but it’s unclear why the company chose to make this distinction. There are many BTS fans in and outside of Korea, and some of them are bound to have an interest in new beta firmware.

In any case, Samsung also warns Galaxy S20 customers of the usual dangers of joining a beta program, such as running into bugs or losing personal data. But Galaxy S20 customers willing to take the risk and get early access to One UI 5.0 should be able to do so soon. We’ll keep you posted as soon as the first beta build for the Galaxy S20 series rolls out or we hear more about its whereabouts.

Thanks for the tip, @ImAmnTiwari!
